We are thrilled to announce that Laurence Gartel, a legendary figure in the digital art world, has joined Robohood as our new Artist Ambassador! With a career spanning over 50 years, Gartel has consistently pushed the boundaries of technology and creativity, making him the perfect artist to represent Robohood's innovative fusion of robotics and art.
Laurence Gartel is a pioneering force in the world of computer art. His journey began alongside video art icon Nam June Paik at Media Study/Buffalo in upstate New York, where he explored early analog computer systems. Over the decades, Gartel’s groundbreaking work has been showcased at prestigious institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, Long Beach Museum of Art, Princeton Art Museum, and the Norton Museum of Art. His pieces have earned permanent placement in renowned collections such as the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of American History, Bibliothèque Nationale, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Gartel’s artistic philosophy has always revolved around leveraging cutting-edge technology. From creating art with the Cromemco Z2 microcomputer and the Apple II—some of the first personal computers to support color graphics—to embracing today’s advanced tools, Gartel continues to redefine what’s possible in the digital art space. Now, with Robohood’s robotic painting technology, Gartel is once again at the forefront of innovation, bridging the gap between the digital and physical art worlds.
Beyond galleries and museums, Gartel’s influence spans the globe. He has delivered keynote addresses at major conferences such as the First Pan Pacific Computer Conference in Melbourne, the Photographica Congress in Orvieto, the Soros Foundation in Moscow, and the National Art Education Association’s conference in San Diego. His art has been featured at high-profile events, including NASA’s MMS launch, the Monaco International Film Festival, the 113th New York International Auto Show, and the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. One of his most notable installations, "Legends of Rock & Roll," is a highlight of the Seminole Hard Rock Guitar Hotel.
As Laurence Gartel joins Robohood, we are ecstatic to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the art world. His unparalleled expertise and visionary approach perfectly align with our mission to redefine the creative process through robotic painting. Together, we’re building the future of art—a future where technology and creativity merge seamlessly. Stay tuned for upcoming projects and exhibitions featuring Laurence Gartel and Robohood. We’re just getting started!
